As the Director of Marketing at GreenRope, I have set up all of our marketing automated processes. It has been no easy feat, and it's an ever evolving process.

My one tip for successful marketing automation is don’t just set it and forget it. A lot of people believe that once you have the processes in place, you don’t have to touch it. While that’s technically true, it’s not a best practice. First, you have to test and track your automation. Are people opening your messages? Are people converting? If you aren’t tracking, you could be losing out on a whole lot of revenue. Don’t just set it and forget it. Monitor, revise, review, and track. Also, never ever forget to go through the automated process yourself. Are your triggers working when they are supposed to? Whether it’s internal or customer facing, you need to make sure that what you set up is actually functioning the way it should. One thing I’ve seen a lot are issues with placeholder and data fields intended for personalization. Is the right content getting into your emails? Test this from multiple accounts to make sure it works. Otherwise, you could be sending out some embarrassing messages.
